Magnetospheric chaos and dynamical complexity response during storm time disturbance

چکیده

Abstract. In this study, we examine the magnetospheric chaos and dynamical complexity response to disturbance storm time (Dst) solar wind electric field (VBs) during different categories of geomagnetic (minor, moderate major storm). The series data Dst VBs are analysed for a period 9 years using non-linear dynamics tools (maximal Lyapunov exponent, MLE; approximate entropy, ApEn; delay vector variance, DVV). We found significant trend between each parameter storm. MLE ApEn values indicate that chaotic responses high minor storms, reduce at storms decline further storms. However, obtained from with no difference periods associated minor, test non-linearity in reveals strongest features. Based on these findings, features as input output system suggest non-linear, consistently stochastic nature.

April 2000 magnetic storm: Solar wind driver and magnetospheric response

[1] On 4 April 2000, a coronal mass ejection (CME) took place close to the western limb of the Sun. The shock front of the CME hit the Earth’s magnetosphere on 6 April. A strong interplanetary southward BZ event in the sheath region caused a magnetic storm that was the second strongest in the year 2000 if quantified by the peak of the Dst index. We have analyzed this sequence of events using ob...

Chaos in magnetospheric radio emissions

A three-wave model of auroral radio emissions near the electron plasma frequency was proposed by Chian et al. (1994) involving resonant interactions of Langmuir, whistler and Alfvén waves. Chaos can occur in the nonlinear evolution of this three-wave process in the magnetosphere. In particular, two types of intermittency, due to either local or global bifurcations, can be observed. We analyze t...

Modeling magnetospheric current response to solar wind dynamic pressure enhancements during magnetic storms: 2. Application to different storm phases

[1] Two patterns of ground H perturbation as response to pressure enhancements during different phases of storms are found. One is polarity asymmetry under southward IMF Bz, e.g., 25 September 1998, 29 May 2003, and 10 January 1997 events; the other is positive H perturbation everywhere under northward IMF Bz, e.g., 7 November 2000 event. The polarity asymmetry can be further divided into two c...
